REU Rafting Trip

REU Rafting Trip on the Lower Youghiogheny River

On July 2nd, the Chemistry REU participants along with other groups, enjoyed a white water rafting excursion on the Lower Youghiogheny River.

REU participants (from left front: Lisa Reilly, Brian Blasiole, Adam Chanley, Michelle Muza, Melissa Arredondo, Bill Lokar, Brandi Schmidt, Josh Kern).

Some of the other people we went with are shown in the following photo. Jan Steckel is guiding the raft in the middle and Bob Walsh is in the kayak to the left.

The Lower Youghiogheny River is a beautifully scenic, Class III (intermediate level) whitewater run located in western PA about one hour's drive from Pittsburgh. It is exciting and fun.

When we stopped for lunch some of us has the idea to jump off this rock into the rapids. This was a lot of fun.

Before we jumped, we all got up on the rock
