Friday, 15 April 2005. Our program is now filled. Emails will be sent next week to everyone who applied and who has not already heard from us. Thanks for your interest in our program! 218 people applied for the 10 positions available; 150 or more were well-qualified and deserving of an offer - we're disappointed that we could not accommodate everyone and hope that those not joining us this summer find suitable positions. Friday, 1 April 2005, 7:25 pm. As of now, 8 students have accepted offers for the summer REU program, 5 students have turned down offers, and 2 offers are still outstanding.
Thursday, 31 March 2005, 5:15 pm. As of today, 7 students have accepted offers for the summer REU program, 4 students have turned down offers, and 3 offers are still outstanding. As each 'decline' comes in, we immediately tender a new offer. We expect to send out emails to everyone who we are not able to accommodate in our program as soon as two things happen: the secretary who does the actual emailing returns from vacation and our program has been filled.
Friday, 25 March 2005, 3:30pm. Wow - they are a lot of stellar undergrads out there who I wish I could get involved in my program! I've made offers to 10 students (but haven't heard back from any of them yet!). Its highly unlikely that they will all accept, so I expect to be making a additional offers over the coming week or so. If memory serves, we needed to make 15 or so offers each of the past several years in order to fill the ten positions. However, even though I'm confident the "yield" will not be 100%, I'm not allowed to have more than 10 offers outstanding at any one point in time.
Friday, 25 March 2005, 9 am. The first 7 offers (we have 10 positions to fill) will be going out shortly. Once ten offers have been made, I have to wait till someone turns down an offer to make another offer, so please respond promptly to emails from us.
Ok, its Thursday, 24 March 2005, and I'm still behind. We have the problems with our database fixed now, which makes the reviewing of the approximately 240 applications much easier. I'm reviewing applications right now, but as of 2:00 pm, I have not sent out any offers. I know everyone is anxious, so we will be updating things daily from here on out, and sometimes several times a day.
As of today, Monday 21 March 2005, all applications have been received, but they have not yet been completely reviewed, nor have any offers been made. We hope to make offers with in the next day or two so check back here again Wednesday to look for an update.
As of today, Monday, 17 January 2005, the web site is up-to-date for the Summer 2005 program, but it is not yet complete. We will continue to add projects and to update the web site periodically. Right now, we are focusing on two improvements, posting additional projects and creating an on-line application (that will mirror the paper application).
