Margaret Cavanaugh (University of Pittsburgh B.S., 1968; M.S. 1969; Catholic U. Ph.D. 1973). Following a successful academic career in inorganic chemistry, she joined the Chemistry Division of the National Science Foundation. She is currently Staff Associate for the Environment, Office of the Director, NSF. She was a key leader in establishing the NSF CAREER program, which rewards young scholars in for both good teaching strategies and research ideas.
Paul Lauterbur (Case Institute of Technology B.S., 1951; University of Pittsburgh Ph.D. 1962) . Head of Department of Medical Information Sciences, Professor of Medical Information Sciences, Chemistry, Molecular and Integrative Physiology, Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology, the Bioengineering Program, the Neuorscience Program, and in the Beckman Institue. Director, Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Laboratory University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Research Professor, Department of Radiology and Distinguished University Professor, College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and is widely recognized for his pioneering achievements in nuclear magnetic resonance that have made imaging (MRI) possible.
Alfred Moyé (West Virginia Wesleyan College B.S., 1960; University of Pittsburgh Ph.D. 1969). He has had a distinguished career in University administration and is now a Member of Pitt's Board of Trustees (Special Trustee, 1997-2001). He is Hewlett-Packard's Manager of University Affairs.
