State of the art equipment and more than 35 staff, instructional specialists, and technical support personnel are integral parts of the department's extensive infrastructure. The department is equipped with a wide variety of instrumentation, including scanning tunneling microscopes; specialized instrumentation for combinatorial chemistry; nine FTIR systems; an array of ESCA, AUGER, ESDIAD, EEL, afterglow, and Raman spectrometers; a vibrating sample magnetometer; more than 30 high-power laser systems; and a full complement of standard chemical research instruments.
