G. Michael Deeb

Michael Deeb received his B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971, majoring in Chemistry, and his significant undergraduate research resulted in a JACS publication in 1972.  He received his M.D. from the same University in 1975.  Dr. Deeb did a surgical internship and both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies at the University of Pittsburgh during the period 1975-1982.  In 1982, he became Assistant Professor of Surgery at Temple University Hospital.  In 1986, he joined the University of Michigan Medical Center as Assistant Professor of Surgery, becoming associate Professor in 1991 and professor in 1996; in 2004 he was awarded the Herbert Sloan Collegiate Professorship.  His clinical appointments at the University of Michigan Medical Center include: Director, Heart/Lung Transplant and Artificial Devices Program (1986-1995), Director, Adult Cardiac Surgery (1990-1999), and Co-Director, Heart Care Program (1996-present).  Dr. Deeb has held consulting positions at many hospitals between 1982 and 2000 and since 1997 has been a consultant at Medtronic Cardiac Surgery, Minneapolis, MN.  He has performed extensive sponsored research throughout his career, resulting in 143 publications in journals and books and many presentations at meetings.  He has lectured widely and often nationally and internationally on topics such as cardiac transplantation and valve implantation.
